PRIME MINISTER's SECURITY: AN ISSUE BEYOND POLITICS

There is a term VVIP ( Very Very Important Person ) generally used to refer to people of national & international importance. The Prime Minister of India is one of them.

Recently on his visit to Punjab (5th JANUARY 2022 ) Narendra Modi's security was compromised when his carcade was stopped by protesting farmers at the Firozpur flyover and he was forced to return without attending the ralley . Here the real question arises why is the security of the prime minister taken so lightly.

What is the procedure of providing security to the prime minister during any state visit?

Security of the prime minister is the responsibility of Special Protection Group (S.P.G) Prime Minister's security is planned according to instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The travel plan is shared with the Chief Minister, the Home Minister, the Director General of Police, and the Chief Secretary of the state. The plan is also shared with S . S . P . of the district. & the District Magistrate Alternative route is always kept ready. The first car is the advance pilot warning vehicle, VVIP car, and the ambulance along with other cars. All vehicles have to go through a security check by the S.P.G. They are followed by cars of the SSP, the DM & the local officials.

. The Punjab Incident

The farmers belonged to Bhartiya Kissan Union, One of the leaders of B . K . U . said they were sitting for a peaceful dharna. He also said that authorities informed them that the prime minister is coming by air route, but due to bad weather conditions the carcade decided to travel by road. He also said our aim was not to harm the prime minister. A Few hours after the incident the blame game between B. J . P & Congress supporters began, BJP Supporters consider it as a conspiracy against Modi, while congress led Punjab government is saying that there was no threat to Prime Minister's life as all necessary arrangements were made in this regard.

Congress supporters are also saying that B.J . P . is dragging the matter unnecessarily & trying to gain sympathy.

In my opinion, Home Ministry is investigating the matter guilty will be punished but BJP& Congress supporters are making it an election agenda, They should understand that the prime minister does not represent any particular political party, The person holding this position represents the country as a whole

The Punjab government can also not take this issue so lightly, it should not have permitted the farmers to protest on the road that can be made an alternative route for the Prime Minister's visit. Because peaceful a demonstration can turn violent anytime, which could threaten the life of a very important person like the Prime Minister, one should be prepared for every emergency situation

in such a V.V.I.P. trip. BJP supporters should also not make this an election issue and let the investigating officers do their work.

Security agencies should also try that such a security lapse does not happen in the future because V.V.I.P. security is an issue beyond politics & a threat to the life of P.M is a threat to national security.
